Research Sample Profiling

Principal Investigator:
Project Overview
Background & Purpose:

The goal of the project is to understand the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary (MIDR) nature of education and learning research and how it has developed over time, with a focus on cognitive science and its relationship to education research.

Setting:

The project will generate evidence that is descriptive [phenomenological] and synthetic [meta-analysis]. Original data will be collected on recipients of REESE awards using survey research [online] and structured text databases. Instruments or measures include VantagePoint Text mining software and suitable measures we employed in a previous award from NSF (DRL-0636174).

The analysis plan includes:

  1. Extract proposal and report bibliometric data while protecting confidentiality.
  2. Use these data to refine our text mining tools and methods to process these data, and experiment with novel mechanisms to visualize proposal topical emphases and relationships.
  3. Calculate interdisciplinarity metrics suitable to assess proposals and publications, particularly in the STEM education research arena.
Findings:

Findings will be posted as they become available.
