This project couples an analysis of two state-level longitudinal databases (KIDS and KSPED) with a case study of a school district-community college dyad. It will generate evidence that is causal [hierarchical generalized linear models] and descriptive [case study]. Data on Kansas’ high school graduates enrolling in Kansas postsecondary educational institutions, including students declaring STEM majors upon entry into postsecondary education, is available on the two statewide longitudinal databases. An analysis of this data will be augmented by the collection of primary data from academic records in the school district-community college dyad. The impact of these analyses on local and state educational stakeholders will be explored through a series of focus groups. Instruments or measures being developed include a high school transcript analysis protocol and a focus group interview protocol.
