Project Overview

Background & Purpose:

The purpose of this project is: (1) to inform teachers about Culturally Relevant Teaching (CRT) Theory and pedagogy, and (2) to assist teachers in finding applications of CRT in their mathematics teaching.

Setting:

The project was a conference held at the University of Maryland College Park, March 11-12, 2010.

Research Design:

This project is longitudinal and is designed to generate evidence that is descriptive [observational] and associative/correlational [interpretive commentary]. Original data are collected through self-completion questionnaires. A survey instrument has been constructed. Teachers will complete the survey in summer and fall of 2010 and in spring of 2011.

Comparison of results from the pre-conference questionnaire, the post-conference questionnaire, and the surveys from the year will be analyzed for change on various factors. Both individual and group scores on different variables will be analyzed.
